Without equality, there can be no liberty.
Without humanity, there can be no compassion.
Without justice, there can be no peace.
Sheppey is Ours! is a Citizens Action Network designed to bring the local community together. The Isle of Sheppey is a community with so much to offer, a place that so often gets a bad name despite its many positive attributes.
Sheppey is Ours! wishes to bring these positives together, to show that Sheppey is worth celebrating for both its fascinating past and its exciting future. We plan on doing this by building an alliance of national and local partners to help build a future on Sheppey that we can all be proud of.
We are a political platform, not a political party.
Our purpose is to catalyse a new politics that goes far beyond our current reality. We focus on engagement more than elections, on values over ideology, on futures that include, not exclude. We care about solutions, challenges and great questions.
Beneath the democratic deficit lies an imagination deficit.
Through curation, editorial, public events, commissioning and research, we aim to transform the language and practice of politics on these islands.
We are committed to doing what's best for our society. We show this off best with projects like our Island Wellbeing Mascot. However, we believe that everything we do is of benefit to the community (otherwise of course we wouldn't be doing it).
We are committed to building a better democracy for all. We are of the opinion that politics is a thing that people should have an active role in, and not just be something that is done to them. We are working with many different groups to design a better system of politics for Sheppey and the nation as a whole.
We are committed to building a new economy. One that puts people and the community at large, first. People investing in local businesses. Local businesses investing in people. A cycle of solidarity which allows us to build a sustainable future.
We are committed to Sheppey's blue and green spaces. Our work with the likes of "Green New Deal UK" highlight this best. We will do everything in our power to fight against climate collapse.
All our ideas are backed by either:
A. Research from some of the UK's leading think tanks.
B. Based on ideas that we have seen work elsewhere in the world.
C. Suggestions from members of our community.
We use the term "friends" to show that we do not have any legal affiliations to these groups, but as we share many similar goals we work together when looking to resolve issues.
